In his new memoir, Forward Only, the Fort Worth author finally tells how it began — and how a man who spent decades running from his own life found his way back.
Forward Only (Forward Only Publishing) releases October 1, 2026 in both English and Spanish editions (Solo Hacia Adelante), and is available now for pre-order through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and local bookstores.
Set in small-town North Texas, the book traces Watson’s journey from a boy raised by his grandparents outside Van Alstyne to a young man who, at fifteen, learned to tell himself a lie that would rule the next thirty years of his life. What follows is an unflinching account of theft, cons, and flight — a run that circled the globe, landed him in a foreign prison and a federal one, and cost him years he can never get back. It is also, ultimately, a story of redemption: of the treatment programs, hard lessons, and the single mentor who helped him finally face the man he’d become and write, on paper, a plan to become someone else.
“This is the most honest thing I’ve ever done,” said Watson. “I wanted anyone who’s made a wreck of their life to know the past doesn’t have to be the end of the story.”
Watson was released on July 9, 2025. Today he earns his living with his hands restoring cars, devotes his time to making up for the years he lost with his family, and leads a second-chances mission through The Redemption Foundation, which he founded.
Momentum around the launch is already building. FOX 4 Dallas is featuring Watson in its “Here & Now” segment ahead of the release, and he will sign copies at Barnes & Noble Fort Worth on Friday, October 3, 2026 (4801 Overton Ridge Blvd, Ste 100). The screenplay adaptation, written by Watson and registered with the Writers Guild of America, is in active talks with producers as an independent feature to be filmed in Texas.
