After 9/11, New Yorkers had to figure out not only how to rebuild, but how to rebuild together. Twenty-five years later, we need to learn how to do that again.”

— Filmmaker J.B. Sabey

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has just released the documentary feature 9/11: RECLAIMING GROUND ZERO — now available on North American digital HD internet, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms starting on September 1, 2026.

After the smoke cleared and the rubble was removed, there was a city to rebuild. But no one could agree on what to build. Ideas ranged from rebuilding the Twin Towers exactly as they were to building nothing at all and turning the entire site into a memorial. This wasn’t just real estate. It was New York’s collective response to tragedy. And so the city decided to do one of the bravest, or stupidest, things in the history of urban planning. City officials gathered 5,000 representative New Yorkers into the largest town hall in American history and asked them what to do with Ground Zero. People expected chaos, shouting, and maybe even a fistfight. But what happened was democracy.

Directed by J.B. Sabey, 9/11: RECLAIMING GROUND ZERO was produced by Carolyn Lukensmeyer, Robbie Shinder and Sarah Perkins. Subjects interviewed include: Stephen Heintz, Monica Iken, Daniel Libeskind, Errol Louis, Carolyn Lukensmeyer and George Pataki.

“This film tells the story of 5,000 New Yorkers who had every reason to be divided, but found a way to listen to one another and build something together,” said filmmaker J.B. Sabey. “It’s a lesson for today. After 9/11, New Yorkers had to figure out not only how to rebuild, but how to rebuild together. Twenty-five years later, we need to learn how to do that again.”

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated a deal to acquire 9/11: RECLAIMING GROUND ZERO directly with the filmmakers and Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films.
